How long have you been Upcycling/Refashioning/Recreating Clothing from thrifted textiles?
8 years
How long have you been sewing?
Since I was 8.
How and why did you get started in Upcycling/Refashioning?
My grandmother taught me to sew, then gave me her machine and cottons. I despise patterns so decides to try something else- I made a bag using random bits, and was hooked
Why do you Upcycle/Refashion/Recreate clothing from thrifted textiles?
Beautiful fabrics and vintage napery inspire me, as does the way denim ages so nicely. I
don’t want to see them stashed in a cupboard or even worse, in landfill.
What type of clothing do you like to create and why?
I make bags, because I’m a bagaholic haha
What is your favorite textile to Upcycle/Refashion/Recreate from? and why?
Denim!
What was your favorite project?
I love them all!
Thank You Zowie for sharing your creations with us!

How long have you been Upcycling/Refashioning/Recreating?
Two years
Do you sew? How long have you been sewing?
Yes I’ve been sewing in and off for 30 years but focused on bags for 2 years.
What other Upcycling Skill do you have?
I also crochet bags, dolls and cats from recycled jumpers.
How and Why did you get started in Upcycling/Refashioning/Recreating?
I’ve always loved second hand shopping and sewing. So creating beautiful bags from recycled clothing and upholstery, allowed me to combine my two passions. Then I had so many bags, I started selling them at markets, which I also love doing.
What is your favorite item to create?
Definitely handbags.
If you had to chose one item you made, which is your most favorite?
Just one item , I love them all, but I guess the first bag I made from an old suit jacket.
I started a business based on Upcycling/Refashioning DIYing and it's called:
Recycled Reticules
How would you recommend someone get started in Upcycling/Refashioning?
Just jump in - try a few things to see what excites you. I’ve learn something from every bag I’ve made. Also don’t let the failures stop you, we all have failures, it’s just another way to learn.
I am not all about Upcycling, I also like to:
I’m lucky to be retired, so I can spend a lot of time in my sewing studio (aka the dining room). My favourite thing is to listen to podcasts whilst I’m sewing. I also love cooking and I’ve been an aerobics junky forever.
